Available Data Sets
The Data Center maintains several large public use data sets central to the study of inter-personal violence. These include:
Decennial Census:
- Place Level Census 2000 (Age, Sex, Race)
- The 1990 Census STF1A and STF3A (about one million records of data with approximately 3500 variables - public data set)
- The 1980 Census STF3A (about one half million records of data with approximately 1200 variables - public data set)
- Census Compare 1980 - 1990
- County Population Estimates 1990 - 1998
FBI Uniform Crime Reports (with links to census):
- The 1980-2002 UCR Arrest (Age, Sex, Race)
(about 20 million records of data with approximately 90 variables - public data set) - The 1980-2002 UCR Offense (Return-A)
(about 340,000 records of data with approximately 40 variables - public data set) - The 1980 -2002 Supplementary Homicide Reports (SHR)
(about 420,000 records of data with approximately 48 variables - public data set) - UCR Agency-Census FIPS Codes
- NIBRS ( available through Cognos only) 1998-2001
National Surveys:
- 1993 - 1997 CDC Firearm Injury Surveillance Study Data
(about 20,000 records of data with approximately 47 variables - public data set) - 1973 - 2002 National Crime Victimization Survey (Public Use) (Temporarily unavailable for data rebuild - expected up 2/28/05)
City Incident-Based Data:
- The City Homicides (Police Records for Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Miami, Chicago and Houston), 1985 - 1995
(about 20,000 records of data with approximately 50 variables - Still private research data set) - City Serious Assaults (Police Records, 5 Cities), 1995 to 1997
