Do I have to install the JAVA SKD to make Discoverer work?

You do not have to install the Java SDK from Sun Microsoft Corporation in order to use the online Oracle Discoverer. 

What is Adobe PDF?

Adobe PDF is an acronym for "Portable Document Format".  PDF files are compact, cross platform files that can be viewed by anyone with a free Acrobat Reader.   As PDF files hold all formatting and style information, they are a convenient method of distributing detailed documents.  The free Acrobat Reader ensures that any user can view the document regardless of what commercial word processing applications they may own.

How do I download Adobe Acrobat Reader?

Click on the appropriate link to download Acrobat Reader to your computer.  Then follow the instructions below.

How do I install Adobe Acrobat Reader?

  1. Click on one of the links above to download the Acrobat Reader installer application. You may need to use the "Save Next Link As..." or "Save to Disk" functions of your Web browser.
  2. After the download is complete, quit your Web browser.
  3. Double-click the newly downloaded file.
  4. Follow the instructions on your screen.

If there is a failure at any point during the installation of Acrobat Reader, the installer performs a complete uninstall. Do not close the installer application by clicking its close box in the upper right corner of the background window.  If you wait for a moment, the installer will automatically close the background windows after the installation is complete.

Problems Opening PDF Files in Internet Explorer?

If you are experiencing problems opening PDF in Internet Explorer, files please do the following:

  • Open Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional

  • Select Edit, Preferences from the drop down menu

  • Select Internet from the left navigational bar

  • Uncheck the box for Display PDF in Browser under Web Browser Options

Adobe Acrobat will open the PDF files outside of the NCOVR Website.  This is a temporary solution to problems caused by a recent Microsoft security patch.

Please note that preferences may appear differently depending on the version of Adobe Acrobat.

This problem does not seem to appear using Mozilla Firefox or Netscape browsers.
